Mothering Can Be Triggering

It is really hard to be a patient, kind, present, respectful, and loving mother when your own parents never met you with this energy.

The reality is most of us were raised by parents that never took the time to do their own inner work. They were emotionally immature, unavailable, reactive, dismissive, and even abusive at times.

While other parents were narcissistic, grooming their children in their image and putting them under intense pressure to be perfect and always achieving as a way to bolster their own sense of importance and success. Never actually getting to know their children and supporting their uniqueness.

Then you have those parents that disown, abandon, and reject their children leaving intense scars on their hearts. Rather it putting them up for adoption with good intentions, showing favoritism among siblings, or choosing addiction, lovers, work, or any other self-serving vices over caring for their children.

If you resonate as being a child in one or more of these dynamics, becoming a mother has a way of bringing up many conflicting emotions. As much as we love our children, their existence is very triggering at times.

I was raised in a chaotic and boundaryless family...

This led to many traumatic experiences, core wounds, and false limiting beliefs.

From a very early age I could feel that something was off, and swore to myself I would be a positive force of change within my family.

It started with being a role-model to my younger siblings and was intensified when I had my first son.

My journey started intellectually as I enrolled in psychology courses trying to understand the Why in an attempt to outsmart these dysfunctional patterns.

It wasn't until I started my graduate program and had my second baby, I realized the answer was within me...

And so, my internal healing journey began and I finally found the peace, inner trust, and confidence I'd been searching for all along.

Of course I am not perfect, and there are times I fall back into old patterns. The difference is I am self-aware enough to catch it, regulate, and repair.

When and Where does the group meet?

We will meet at my office in South Austin

We'll meet every other Sunday 11:00-1:00

Why is there a 6-month commitment?

I'm a creating a space for you to create deep transformation and trauma work goes at a slower pace for safety.

It will take time to build trust and safety with me and the other members of the group.

What if I have to miss a group session?

Unfortunately, In the event life happens and you can't make it to one of the sessions there is no way to make it up.

But, you will not totally miss out either. I will send you an email with the theme discussed, main takeaways, and any activity we completed to do on your own.

What if I don't want to participate in the ceremonies or retreats?

Ceremonies and retreats are not required, they are offered as supportive add-ons to your experience. They will not take the place of a regular group meeting, so no worries there.

When is payment due?

If you choose the monthly option, $150 will be charged the 1st of each month to your card on file. (If an alternative withdrawal day is needed just let me know)

If you choose to pay-in-full, the payment is due before you attend the first group?

Will the group members ever change?

This is a semi-closed group, meaning the group members will consistent overall.

In the initial start-up phase new members may join until we reach 10 members.

There may be member change over again at the end of the initial 6 month commitment if some members choose not to continue their spots will be filled.

Does group therapy replace the need for individual therapy?

This is not a one size fits all answer.

For some group therapy will be enough to support them on their healing journey.

For others, they will need individual support to work through some traumatic memories and/or emotions that the group brings to the surface. If this is the case for you, I am happy to support you or connect you with a another therapist that can.
